MILLER FARM EQUIPMENT
HISTORY
The current group of Miller Farm Equipment stores began in 1924 with J.W. Miller
in Rocanville,
Saskatchewan and the International Harvester contract. J.W. operated the store
with his sons Harold and Gordon until his passing in 1953.
Harold left to pursue a career in education and Gordon and his son Gerry took
over the business naming it "J.G. Miller and Son".
In 1966 the business was incorporated to "Miller Farm Equipment Ltd." and after
Gordon's passing in 1968 Gerry assumed sole ownership.
The year 1979 saw Miller Farm Equipment Ltd. open a new store in Moosomin,
Saskatchewan which is located 16 miles south of Rocanville. The Moosomin store
on the Trans Canada Highway became the sole dealership in the early 1980s, as
the Rocanville store was phased out.
Gerry's son Kevin assisted at the business during his high school years, and
after graduation from grade twelve and a two-year pre-employment program at the
Kelsey Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences in Saskatchewan joined the
business full time.
Gerry and his two sons (Kevin and Ken) also farmed in the Rocanville District at
the time.
In 1982 Robert (Bob) Davidson, a McAuley, Manitoba farmer, joined Miller's as a
salesman. The Moosomin buildings were in the meantime undergoing extensive
additions and renovations to encompass a growing staff and customer base. In
1984 a partnership was formed between Gerry, son Kevin and Bob, with a new name
on the building -- "Miller Farm Equipment (1984) Co.". 1985 was a pivotal year
in our lives as “Tenneco Corp”, a U.S.A. corporation, purchased the
International Harvester Corporation and merged it with their subsidiary J I
Case, also noted long time farm machinery manufacturer.
In 1994 Gerry, Kevin and Bob purchased the assets of the Case company store in
Shoal Lake, Manitoba. In 1997, Douglas Heritage joined the sales team in
Moosomin and in 1998 became a partner by purchasing Gerry's share of Miller Farm
Equipment. 1999 heralded yet another merger in our industry when Case
Corporation and New Holland N.V. joined forces under the CNH Global banner.
This amalgamation pole-vaulted the new company into the number one position as a
manufacturer of combines and tractors in the world and the 3rd largest maker of
construction equipment. (Combined revenues in the year 2000 were over 10
billion dollars).
In February 2001 Bob Davidson retired and his interest was purchased by Doug and
Kevin. In July, 2001 Gerry, Kevin and Doug formed Miller Farm Equipment
(Dauphin) Ltd. approximately 11 months after the existing Case-IH dealer wound
down his operation in Dauphin, Manitoba. In 2003 Kevin and Doug bought out
Gerry, their remaining partner, and today are equal partners of the Miller
Group.
In 2003 Doug and Kevin formed a new company, "Miller Group Properties Inc."
which holds the land and buildings for the Miller Group of companies.
January 2006 saw more dealership expansion with the acquisition of the Brandon
MB, Franchise-formerly "Red River Equipment". The corporation was renamed at
that time to become "Miller Farm Equipment 2005 Inc".
In January 2008 Miller Farm
Equipment acquired two additional dealerships in Boissevain and Killarney
Manitoba from “Red Power Equipment”. With the addition of these two stores
Millers now employ more than 120 people and is privileged to have served
customers for over 84 years.
Our business success is solely attributed to our top notch professional staff
and our partner -- "The Farmer". We owe a huge debt of gratitude to our farm
customers for their on-going support and for this we give our heartfelt
"Thanks!!”
